itel S24 Review – Budget Phone with a 108MP Camera

The itel S24, released in April 2024, is an exciting entry in the budget smartphone segment in Nigeria. Its standout feature is an unusually high-resolution main camera for its price, coupled with a smooth display and solid battery life, aiming to deliver strong value to consumers.

Modern Design, Practical Features

The itel S24 sports a contemporary design, often featuring a distinct circular camera module. It typically measures around 8.3mm thick and weighs 192g, offering a comfortable feel in hand. For convenience and security, it includes a responsive side-mounted fingerprint sensor and a modern USB Type-C port. The traditional 3.5mm headphone jack is also present. Some variants even feature a “Color Change” technology on the back (e.g., Dawn White changing to pink under UV light), adding a touch of flair.

Smooth 90Hz Display

The device features a 6.6-inch IPS LCD with an HD+ resolution (720 x 1612 pixels). While HD+ is standard for this price, the key highlight is its 90Hz refresh rate. This provides a noticeably smoother visual experience when scrolling through content or navigating the UI, enhancing responsiveness. The screen also offers a peak brightness of around 480 nits, ensuring decent visibility in most lighting conditions. It’s a punch-hole display, maximizing screen-to-body ratio.

Capable Performance for Daily Use

Powering the itel S24 is the MediaTek Helio G91 Ultra processor. This octa-core chipset, built on a 12nm process, is designed for efficient performance in the entry-level to lower-mid-range segment. It’s usually paired with 4GB or 8GB of RAM (with virtual RAM extension up to 16GB total) and 128GB or 256GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, which is expandable via a dedicated microSD card slot up to 1TB. This configuration allows for smooth handling of daily tasks like web Browse, social media, messaging, and casual gaming.

108MP Camera & All-Day Battery

The itel S24’s most impressive feature is its 108MP main rear camera (f/1.6 aperture), which uses a Samsung HM6 ISOCELL sensor. This high-resolution sensor, often employing “Nonapixel Plus Tech” (9-in-1 pixel binning), aims to capture detailed photos, especially in good lighting, and improve low-light performance. It also offers 3X in-sensor zoom. For selfies, there’s an 8MP front-facing camera. While it may not match flagship camera performance, it offers remarkable capabilities for its price.

Battery life is another strong point, thanks to its 5000mAh battery. This large capacity easily provides all-day usage for most users. It supports 18W wired fast charging via USB Type-C, allowing for reasonably quick top-ups (advertised 50% in 40 minutes).

Android 13, Affordable Price

The itel S24 launched with Android 13 and itel OS 13. While not the very latest Android version, it provides a stable and feature-rich user experience for a budget device.

In Nigeria, the itel S24 is competitively priced, typically ranging from ₦118,000 to ₦160,000, depending on RAM/storage configuration. Considering its 108MP camera, 90Hz display, robust battery life, and capable performance, the itel S24 offers excellent value for consumers looking for a feature-packed smartphone on a budget.
